Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff was born on April 3, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Her father William Kappelhoff was a music teacher, while her mother was Alma Sophia Kappelhoff. For some time in her life, she thought she was born in 1924 before she found her birth certificate. She had two brothers, but both passed away. Their names were Richard and Paul.
Doris Day was married four times. The first time, it was from 1941 until 1943 to Al Jorden, who passed away in 1967. She then got married to a saxophonist George Weidler, who died in 1989. Their marriage lasted for 3 years, from 1946 until 1949. Her third marriage was the longest, to Martin Melcher from 1951 until 1968. He was a film producer who sadly died in 1968. Her fourth and final marriage was between 1976 and 1981 to Barry Comden, who passed in 2009. She only had one son, who also passed away in 2004. His name was Terry Melcher, a famous producer, and musician.
Career
The first job in her long career as a radio program “Carlin’s Carnival”, where she worked as a vocalist. She later worked alongside Barney Rapp, Les Brown, Jimmy James, etc. One of her first major hits came in 1944, called “Sentimental Journey”.
