Energy of the Future 2025

Anastasia Malkina’s agency hosted a large-scale business forum in Moscow dedicated to the future of the oil industry. For one week, Moscow became the center for discussing key issues related to the oil sector. The event was organized by Anastasia Malkina, a renowned expert in event consulting and a participant in the international analytical center “Energy Horizons.”

The forum brought together over 500 participants, including representativesof major oil companies, analysts, government officials, and independent experts. Key speakers included leaders of corporations such as “Rosneft,” “BP,” “Saudi Aramco,” as well as representatives from the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The forum began by outlining the main challenges facing the oil industry in the context of the global energy transformation. Commenting on the forum, Malkina noted that the current geopolitical context, volatility in oil prices, and the growing interest in renewable energy sources require companies to reconsider their strategies and adopt innovative approaches.

“The oil industry is at a turning point. We see how, on one hand, demand for hydrocarbons is growing in developing countries, and on the other, there is increasing pressure from environmental initiatives. Today, the task of the industry is not only to adapt to these changes but also to become a driver of sustainable economic development,” Malkina stated.

One of the central topics of the forum was the discussion of the impact of global climate agreements on the oil sector. Experts noted that stricter environmental requirements and the transition to a low-carbon economy present both risks and new opportunities for companies. Specifically, the prospects for the development of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, the use of hydrogen, and the digitalization of production processes were discussed.

The forum’s program included over 20 panel discussions covering a wide range of topics, from oil price forecasts to the implementation of artificial intelligence in hydrocarbon extraction.

Major deals were signed during the forum. The “Lukoil” corporation signed a memorandum with the Chinese company “CNPC” for the joint development of fields in Eastern Siberia. It was also announced that several pilot projects on carbon capture would be launched with the support of European partners.

The forum concluded with the creation of a resolution that included recommendations for the development of the oil industry amid global transformation. The document emphasized the need for investments in innovative technologies, increased international cooperation, and the integration of ESG principles.

The development of the oil and energy industries in the 21st century remains of paramount importance, as they continue to serve as the backbone of the global economy, providing energy for industries, transportation, agriculture, and the daily lives of billions of people. Oil and natural gas remain key energy sources, meeting the majority of global demand, especially amid population growth and rapid urbanization. For many countries, hydrocarbon exports are a primary source of revenue, enabling them to fund infrastructure projects, education, and healthcare, thereby fostering socio-economic development.

Moreover, the oil industry drives scientific and technological progress: innovations in extraction, processing, and fuel transportation find applications in other sectors, contributing to the creation of new technologies and jobs. Despite the active development of renewable energy sources, a complete transition to “green” energy requires time and substantial investment. Oil and gas thus play a critical role as a bridge between the current energy system and a future based on sustainable technologies.

Energy security remains a crucial factor for all nations, as stable energy supplies are essential for the functioning of hospitals, transportation systems, communication networks, and other key infrastructure. Furthermore, the oil industry is increasingly adopting environmentally oriented technologies such as carbon capture and improved energy efficiency, helping to minimize its environmental impact.

For developing countries, access to energy resources is a vital condition for combating poverty, improving living standards, and accelerating industrialization and economic modernization. Thus, the development of the oil industry and energy sector in the 21st century is not only economically viable but also a strategically necessary step to ensure global stability, sustainable development, and technological progress.
