Stress Relieving Activities for College Students

It is well known that most students that go through college experience a lot of stress, and to go through this stress, they would need to start doing something to relieve those huge amounts of stress. Everyone knows what we are talking about since everyone has been through a situation like this at least once whether in high school, college or work.

However, for some reason, the stress that comes during the college period is somewhat “special”. As a student, you have to worry about hundreds of different issues in your life. You need to pay your bills, bring food at the table, worry about your college debt, about your friends and family back in your hometown and your exams. All of these issues can have a huge impact on one’s peace of mind. Being constantly stressed about your future can have a negative impact on your life. You won’t be able to properly study for your exams which can lead to poor results on your exams.

So, if you have found yourself in a situation then it is time to do some changes in your life. You will need to do some activities that will reduce your stress levels. Fortunately, we have prepared a list for every college student in need with the best stress-relieving activities we could find.

Alone time

Constantly being surrounded by classmates, friends and university professors can be both good and bad for your health. Sure, being socially active is always a good thing, but at times you need to find some alone time. When you feel burnt out and physically overworked during your exam or finals week you need to have a moment to take a breather.

Get one night free and forget about everything that is going in your life, order your favorite food or make a few batches of popcorn and sit down in front of your TV or your computer and just enjoy some peace and quiet. There’s no point in sitting over your book trying to study when you can’t focus for more than ten minutes.

This kind of a break from college life will be more than enough to relive if the excess stress. We recommend you have one day or night such as this one at least two times a week during the hardest times of the semester.

Meditation

It has been proven time and time again that meditation is one of the best ways to reduce your stress levels. Giving your body and your soul to calm down for five to ten minutes every morning and night can be very effective. If you feel like you are grumpy with mood swings in the mornings, a ten-minute meditation might boost your energy.

However, getting into meditation can be complicated, especially if you have no idea what you should be doing. Should you be breathing fast or slow? Should you be sitting, standing or laying down? Fortunately, all of these questions can be answered with a meditation app. These phone applications can guide you through your entire journey and help you advance to much higher levels of meditation. In just a few weeks you will be able to meditate for 30 minutes and you will feel great throughout the entire day.

Where can you find such apps? Well, most of the best meditation apps can usually be found on the PlayStore or the AppStore. Our personal favorite is Mindtastik because it can help with many things such as insomnia, self-esteem, anxiety, stress and many other issues you face every day. You can download this app here.

Physical activities

Just because you feel mentally tired and unhappy, does not mean that your body cannot directly affect how you feel. Many physical things are related to how you feel such as what you eat, how much you are active throughout the day, exposure to sun and so on.

So, if you want to let off some steam you should consider adding some basic physical activities in your day to day life. The most effective would be going to the gym at least two or three times a week, but if you can’t spare the time for that then consider doing runs or long walks before you go to bed at night or just after you wake up in the morning.

Exercising releases opioids and hormones known as endorphins which are the hormones that make us feel good. So, if you treat your body right, the body will treat your brain right.

Listen to some music

Many studies have proven that listening to music can be very calming. It does not matter what kind of music you are listening to as long as it is something you like. It does not have to be calming music like classical, jazz or whatever. Pick your favorite band or genre and listen an hour or two long playlists and you will feel pretty refreshed for the day.

Create a habit of listening to music at least once a day. We recommend you implement this habit while traveling. Just pop the earphones in your ears while commuting to your college and press play on your phone.

A night out with your friends

Our friends are always there to make us feel good. Whether you are out drinking, dancing or just plain having fun, you will immediately feel much better than you previously did. Go to your favorite bar or restaurant, get a couple of drinks in and have some fun. If you do not feel like spending money in a bar then buy a few bottles of wine, beer or whiskey and invite them for a game of charades, Netflix or whatever it is you do for fun.

Clean up

Living in a disorganized and cluttered space can have quite a negative effect on your brain. If you want to have an easier time focusing on your studies then do a major clean-up of your room or your home at least once a week. This habit will help you become a lot more organized in every aspect.
